New research validating sporicidal efficacy of ultrasound probe high-level disinfection devices in clinical settings

The study authors became aware that some automated UV-C ultrasound probe high-level disinfection (HLD) devices were failing to achieve sporicidal efficacy during routine in-field validation in some hospitals.¹

In response to these reports, the authors evaluated the sporicidal efficacy of three commercially available automated HLD devices for ultrasound probes, in clinical settings across Australia & New Zealand via a rigorous in-field validation process.¹

This study validated the sporicidal efficacy of these HLD devices utilising biological indicators with 10⁶ bacterial endospores (G. stearothermophilus), consistent with TGA requirements.¹ The results provide critical insights for facilities using these devices and underscore the importance of ongoing validation for automated HLD systems.
