Instrumental to the development of trophon® technology

Vladimir (Vlad) Berentsveig was one of the first team members in the development of the trophon technology, and has witnessed the company and its global impact grow exponentially during his tenure.

“When I began at Nanosonics in 2003 as a Research Assistant, I was one of only eight or nine team members. At that point, we worked in four small rooms in a building shared with another company. I joined Nanosonics, because I liked the idea of using hydrogen peroxide mist as a decontaminant. I knew there would be challenges along the way to create the product, but I wanted to be on the team that proved it could be done.”

Vlad’s expertise was crucial to the trophon device’s product development stages. “One of our biggest challenges when constructing the trophon device was to guarantee high level disinfection efficacy, while also creating a ‘soft’ environment that wouldn’t damage ultrasound probes. I like challenges, and Nanosonics has given me the opportunity to find solutions, sometimes converting my ideas into real products. I’m proud of my contributions to the trophon device creation – namely the design and formulation of physio-chemical principles that influence its functionality.”

What began as a small collaborative effort in Sydney, Australia has now become the globally-recognized standard of care for ultrasound probe infection prevention. “Looking back at when I started, even in my dreams, I could not imagine we would create a device so successful, and accepted around the world!”

The trophon® family includes trophon® EPR and trophon®2, which share the same core technology of ‘sonically activated’ hydrogen peroxide.
