trophon is widely used around the world in the US, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong.
With the growing global trend towards high level disinfection and implementation of stricter guidelines, the number of countries adopting trophon for their ultrasound probe disinfection is increasing rapidly.
In the United Kingdom, the use of trophon is also increasing following the introduction of stricter high level disinfection guidelines in Scotland, Ireland and Wales.
In Scotland the publishing of high level disinfection guidelines has resulted in the use of trophon by seven Scottish Health Boards and in Wales our system has been adopted by all National Health Service Trusts. In addition, some of England’s largest health trusts including St Bartholomew’s in London, have switched to trophon. In total, trophon can be found in 100 UK health care settings and currently in seven of the top 20 hospitals (England and Wales based on staff size).

In the US, trophon is fast becoming a new standard of care for hospitals and clinics. Our unique technology is now being used in 49 of the top 50 hospitals. In total, trophons can be found in 100 health care settings.

Sanford Health, a large US health care provider with 43 hospitals and nearly 250 clinics, has installed more than 60 trophon devices across its network. Originally chosen for vaginal ultrasound due to its effectiveness against HPV, the group is now using trophon in other departments and facilities, including radiology/imaging, emergency, OB, maternal fetal medicine, breast centers, urology centers, interventional radiology and family clinics.
In Australia, trophon is being adopted by the majority of hospital radiology practices as the standard of care.

Saving time and a safer process

“We purchased some [trophon] units last year and wanted to install more, but we waited for the efficacy studies. Primarily we were looking at trophon for vaginal ultrasound because of the effectiveness against HPV 16 and 18. We felt strongly that any location with vaginal probes should have a trophon unit.
“The [soak] process is extremely complex. There’s turnover in staff and even though you validate every year, it’s very difficult to do that manual disinfection process 100 precent correctly.
“But it’s not only about patient safety – there’s the employee safety aspect of it. You must have adequate ventilation and use personal protective equipment. The trophon process is much safer for employees and takes out all those extra steps.
“You’re not transporting probes. They’re very fragile, and you’re not taking them down the hallway [to a separate disinfection room] and risking breaking them – so that’s ideal.
